Les cellules glandulaires produisent plus de mucus pour prot\u00e9ger les bronches, r\u00e9duisant progressivement leur calibre, et favorisant la bronchite chronique. De plus, le tabac a une action nuisible sur les alv\u00e9oles pulmonaires : il fait dispara\u00eetre progressivement leurs parois. La quantit\u00e9 d\u2019air pouvant \u00eatre inspir\u00e9e et expir\u00e9e (emphys\u00e8me) diminue alors.
