Il s\u2019agit de petits canaux parcourant tout le poumon comme les bronches d\u2019un arbre. A l\u2019extrimit\u00e9 de ces bronches se trouvent des petits sacs remplis d\u2019air, appel\u00e9s alv\u00e9oles: ce sont les feuilles de l\u2019arbre bronchique. Cette inflammation \u00e9paissit leur paroi et leur fait s\u00e9cr\u00e9ter plus de glaires que chez les personnes en bonne sant\u00e9: c\u2019est la bronchite chronique. La paroi des alv\u00e9oles est elle aussi touch\u00e9e et peut dans certains cas se d\u00e9chirer, on appelle cela l\u2019<strong>emphys\u00e8me<\/strong>. Ce sont ces atteintes qui rendent la respiration de plus en plus difficile, pouvant conduire vers une <strong>insuffisance respiratoire chronique<\/strong>.
